Often when confronted with work for the UOC performing arts department regarding photographs I am always exited to see what wondrous ideas the show directors and writers have for me. This time I was approached to photograph the cast for UOC’s Steel Magnolias production, being shown an image of the 2012 movie cover I set out to create a similar look to the portraits.

I ended up using a simple lighting design, two softboxes suspended from the ceiling pointed at each side of the model, not right in front of them. This was in aid of creating that cinematic look used for the movie promotions.

Overall the images were a success! The client being over the moon with the results it’s always a bonus to creating this work.

Doing this alongside my personal work changes up the agenda where I’m not just doing work for myself, the client has the control in terms of what they want. All I can do is suggest ideas and use my existing knowledge of my craft.
