Shred the Bear Fundraising Event

Before the Easter break I held a fundraiser event to find a more creative way to source money to put towards the fundraiser as well as asking family and friends to donate. The idea was to engage students on other courses with the exhibition and fundraising.

It was created to be purely an entertainment event where people would pay £2 to pull a strip of wax off my legs, inflicting pain on myself during the process.

Unfortunately the turnout was very low. The event in total raised £4 when deducting the price for wax strips which was £6. Of course this is very disappointing, however reflecting on the situation it is clear where I went wrong.

The event itself was situated in the photography studios which are not easy to get to if you don’t know your way around the university. Another factor would have been a choice of time to hold the event, as people I had invited were extremely busy with their own work and did not have much time to devote to my fundraiser.

All in all this is a lesson learnt in terms of how I can approach this type of event. University can be a less social place for busy 3rd year students and this event could have been more successful if held in a more social environment.
